Mural dos Decoradores – Monzcarro Murcatto

Do you remember your first day when you fall in love in decorating? Can you tell us short story about that?

When I started playing Tibia one of the things that fascinated me was how rich this world was in terms of content. There were npc houses with furniture and hidden objects and every creature spawn looked different, some even with their individual visual styles. I spent more time exploring the world than xping at first, and when I got my first house I wanted it to fit in and be a natural part of Tibia. I started inventing stories about my character and making up characteristics and personality traits for her that I wanted her house to reflect.
This was hard at first, because Tibia items are very difficult to bend to one’s will, but slowly I got better at seeing what items would fit together. I remember the exhibition room on the first floor of the explorer society in Port Hope was a huge inspiration with the dressers placed in a repetitive pattern with exotic items on top. For a while that was my ideal decoration, and I had those dressers in my Port Hope living room for several years, changing the items on top as I discovered new items through quests.

What is the most important thing in decorating for you?

That the decoration feels real and tells something about the person who owns the house and that there is something for the viewer to discover – a surprise or hidden story. When I decorate for other people I like to put books in the bookshelves and utensils in the kitchen cabinets just so there is something more for them to discover in time.

What are the most beautiful houses you have ever made or which one did you like the most?

This is like having to choose which one of my children I love the most xD If the criteria here is beauty, I’d say the Antimony Lane 1 on Kenora which I owned in 2019. I made a night garden there where most of the items weren’t flowers at all, and I loved both the dark colours and the quiet, mysterious mood in that house.

What is your favorite decorating item?

I don’t have any particular favourites, it always depends on what I am decorating. I think I like the mundane creature products more than very rare and expensive items because I often make carpets and I need a lot of the exact same thing. I often use items like the demonbone amulet for its shape and I’m a sucker for deep red and maroon items like longing eyes or the red goanna scales xD

What is a “must-have” in a good decoration for you?

I’d say a clear idea, contrasts, good lighting and something that is surprising or funny.

What inspires you to create your decorations?

Nothing and everything xD Sometimes I just look at items and they remind me of something and then I end up making a whole decoration from it. Or it can be a person asking me to decorate their house. I like decorating for other people because it gives me a chance to get to know them and try to reflect their personality in the decoration. I do tend to take inspiration from books and films though.

What is your favorite Store item?

It depends on the setting and what fits in the house. But I do like to decorate with the bathtub. It’s such a fun and interactive item, plus it is great to hide light sources under.+

What usually annoys you while decorating?

The inconsistency in the design of the Tibia items! You’d think it was possible to settle on one set of rules for perspective and scale, but sometimes it seems they just throw new things together without thinking about how they will fit with other items in the game. Like the unicorn figurine that is so pretty and delicate but looks like it exists in a completely different dimension when you place it on a table. I’m also annoyed at dustbins and fixed wall fittings, but I’ve gotten pretty good at camouflaging them, so they’re more like light inconveniences xD

When it comes to decorate, what is the most difficulty thing for you?

The most challenging in Tibia decorating is the way the items interact with each other when you stack them. I often wish for invisible chess pieces or trophy stands. But on the other hand, this issue is also what makes Tibia decorating so much fun. Easy is boring! xD
